Roving Bonkers

20 Mar 2007 - Here at last

We are here at last and it's taken 3 weeks get onto a computer!!!! I think at this rate I'll be writing my diary on our trips back home. And no Broadband so putting pics on will take for ever.Well we arrived on 24th Feb at Windhoek stayed 2 nights before hiring a car to drive the 389km to Walvis Bay to pick up the Landy. She started first time and we loaded  the extra trunk into the back, there was only just enough room for us!! We stayed 2 nights in Walvis in Lagoon Lodge a beautiful place over looking the lagoon run by a lovely French couple with a sense of humour, while directing us to The Raft a wonderful fish restuarant on the water  they remarked its run by English .....but they CAN cook!!!!!!!!They were right we ate there both nights. The second day we went up the coast about 175km to Cape Cross to the seal colony there used to be about 300,000 of them, but now due to heavy fishing the numbers are falling by half. The smell wasn't as bad as people made out, the pups were 4 months old and still vunerable to jackal & hyena were saw jackal coming down to the beach as we left.

The following day we went shopping for an African gas tank & had our own filled, along with food, water  everything is so cheap incl the diesel which is the equivelant of 45p a litre!!! We headed south, but by the time we got going of course it was close to noon  not a good time to be on the road.
