23 Mar 2007 - 1 Apr 2007 - Oh Dear !!!!!!!!!
After such a fantastic 4 weeks here in Namibia living our dream, it came to an abrupt halt on Friday 23rd March about 90km from Gobabis on the eastern border with Botswana. We had just driven the 80km of tarmac road from Gobabis in the rain no problem, but the next section was gravel and heavily rutted. Unfortunatley the rear wheels got out of sync with the front wheels, and she began to sway from side to side and the fact that she is very top heavy and the big camber in the road she was soon over on her side!!!! As we later found out a very regular occurance here in Africa, but the most important thing we both OK Rosie did have a couple of bruises though.
Luckily with minutes of the accident 2 "Angels " arrived at the scene, Julie & Willem had been visiting Harnas Animal rescue centre (the place we were heading for) They helped us climb out of the drivers window and after a short prayer thanking god for saving us, they set about a rescue plan for us and our battered Landy. It wasn't long before they had righted the Landy transferred all our possesions into the back of their 4X4, and finding us a hotel room back in Gobabis & insisting on buying us lunch!!!! Before they left for their home in Windhoek they insisted we came and stayed with them until we flew back to the UK, so after a couple of days in Gobabis making the arrangements to have the Landy transported to Windhoek (where Ollie who helped top build the Landy in the UK had a base)
So on Sunday 25th we arrived in Windhoek at Julie & Willem's as you would expect from "Angels" it was like heaven to us, Julie had the guest room all ready for us. It was out in the garden over looking the pool, with it's own bathroom, fridge & kettle Julie had laid out towels, soaps, creams, lotions etc. No sooner had we settled in than there was a call to lunch, well the whole week went just like that despite Julie having to go into hospital on Tuesday. The whole family could not do enough for us, how will we ever repay their hospitality & kindness?
We arrived back in the UK on Sunday morning 1st April (some fool we felt) anyway we have spoken to Paul & Stuart at Foleys and they're sure it will be back on the road in time for our planned return trip with Daragh & Caroline on 22nd June. In the mean time I will fill in some diary & put some photos while staying in Ireland.
