4-7 Mar 2007 - Luderitz & Beyond
We arrived in Ludritz with the intension of either camping at Shark Island Campsite or renting the light house which sounded interesting according to the guide, but on arrival at the campsite which was right on the waters edge. The wind was so strong we didn't even get out of the Landy so decided against camping, and the light house was disappointing as it was just a ordinary house beside the windy campsite. We checked into the Nest Hotel which was also on the coast, they had wireless internet access!!!!!! but they had sold out of vouchers. We booked a boat trip for the next morning to halifax Island to see the Jackass penguins, we were told the trip had been cancelled that morning so we'd have to wait for a call next morning to confirm we could go. We over slept and missed breakfast (less for me to bring up I thought) but the trip was calm and I was OK, we were slightly disappointed we didn't get closer to the penguins. As were leaving the Nest Hotel on the morning of the 6th we met Karen & Roger Barrelet, retirees who were also on the road and expecting the children to join them later on their trip. They were going on to Aus Klein Vista like ourselves, they arrived at the campsite later that evening and invited us for a drink in their room. We spent a good couple of hours in their company before they had to go to dinner, having given us a few tips and places to stay.I wish them a safer journey (than we've had) for the rest of their trip.
