24-26 Jun 2007 - Not a very good start !!!
Once back in Windhoek we had to pack all our possesions back into the landy, unfortunately the boat was delayed with all the parts and Ollie hadn't quite finished the repairs.
So Ollie loaned us a 110 landy and we took all our bedding and the ground tent, and went to the airport to pickup Daragh & Caroline and then head back to Harnas ( the place we were going to when we had the accident) We arrived at the entrance to Harnas at 5:45 it was dusk . there was no one at the gate as Daragh jumped out to open it the car stalled. We went through and after shutting the gate it stalled again what seemed a very short distance in, it seemed we had run out of petrol dispite the gauge reading half full. Daragh and I walked back to the gate house hoping there was a radio to the lodge, well it turned out to be 2 kilometres back and it was dark when we got there. We got into the hut and wired up the radio but no reply, by this time the girls were getting very worried it was over an hour and a half since we set off We walked back to two very relieved people, but were no further on in our attempt to get to the lodge. What we hadn't realised was how cold it was going to be, when we left Namibia at the end of March it was warm at night. We had not eaten since breakfast any of us, Caroline produced some cereal bars and we had some water. Daragh & Caroline got in the back, Rosie stayed in the front seat and I had the back seat, we shared out the bedding and tried to get some sleep.but it was freezing Nobody arrived until 8:45 the next morning when the gateman came up the path from the lodge, so he radioed back and eventually the owner came with a landy to tow us to the lodge. What a terrible start for Daragh & Caroline.
