5 May 2008 - Finding time to write
Despite having been home for 5 months it has been so hard to find the time to sit down and write, catching up with old friends and relatives. Although we took a flat in Horley, we have hardly been there. 2 trips to Ireland, 2 to the New Forest, Scotland , Teneriffe, Liverpool & a few hospital visits with my parents in Bognor Regis and not forgetting the odd day out with Manchester United. And as I have said before it would be so nice to write a diary every night as it happens, not months later it gives me no incentive doing it so long after the events.
After such a diasterous start with Daragh & Caroline, we got into Botswana and started seeing animals we had not seen before. We stayed in Santawani on the edge of the Okavango Delta a wonderful community run Lodge, which we went back to with Greg & Mikala & again to install some flood lights around the waterhole. On our first drive out we saw a Serval at dusk it just stood in front of us ready to pounce on it's prey. And later that night at the waterhole we saw, Elephant, Hyena, Jackal, Giraffe & various antelope while sitting round the camp fire.We also heard a lion in the distance, looking out from our room after lights out we saw the lion walking round our camp fire!!! After 3 wonderful nights at Santawani we moved on to Camp Moremi which was very luxurious, after a morning game drive we sat having brunch and another Serval appeared on the lawn.We had a Bush buck & fawn under our room , and on our afternoon game drive we saw a Leopard scent marking through the bush for about 15 minutes.
